How do I edit my content? PDF Print E-mail

It is easy for Local Sections to add and edit their own news, contact information and events on this new website.

The way it works, is that firstly you must be registered in the user database, so that you can login. All Institute members are registered users.

Secondly, representatives of Local Sections can be upgraded to 'Author'. This enables those members to submit news and events. If it is a brand new submission, it must first be 'Published' by the webmaster. After that, an Author can edit his/her own 'Items'.

If you are the owner of a webpage, you should see an 'Edit' flag at the end of the header. Clicking this should open your webpage for editing. If you do not see a selection of toolbars and just HTML code, then there is a problem with your browser settings. You must have Internet Explorer (on Windows) version 5.5 or above, or Mozilla (v1.5 and up - works on all platforms - Windows, Linux & Mac). You may have to fiddle with the Internet Option settings in your browser - enabling Scripting (in the Security tab) helps.

There is not normally any need to select any special fonts or text sizes, as the default settings will be used.

Please do not use the 'Back Arrow' or 'X' buttons in your browser toolbar when in edit mode, as this locks the item. Always use the toolbar buttons in the editor to save/exit. If the item does become locked, go to the User Menu before you logout and press 'Check-in My Items'. This will release the 'database lock', allowing others to access your items.

To upload files (e.g. pdf, docs), you need to log-in and then upload using the 'Documents' menu item and insert the file into the Local Sections folder. Before you leave the Document Management screen, you must press the button by the document you have just uploaded to approve it, and then the button to publish it. You can therefore unpublish documents you own at any time as well.

To insert this document into your webpage, there are two buttons:

For  Internet Explorer: - use the blue button on the left, labelled 'Insert Docman Document'

For Firefox: - use the  red button at the bottom labelled 'Insert DOCman Link'
